The East Riding of Yorkshire Band performed a brass band concert in All Saints’ Church Hessle and raised over £500 for the Humber Lifeboat at Spurn Point. The concert which was thoroughly enjoyed by an enthusiastic audience had been organised in conjunction with the Hessle Branch of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution).
Colin Montell, one of our supporters, was at Bridlington to see the new Shannon Lifeboat come on station. Pictures show the boat being demonstrated to onlookers; coming towards the shore and a dead stop.

ASDA FOUNDATION AND HESSLE FLAG DAY CONTRIBUTE MORE FUNDS FOR THE RNLI

The Hessle Branch of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) has just been presented with a cheque for £200 by ASDA’s Hessle Road Store through the company’s Community Foundation scheme where every month each store supports 3 different local charities. This money is going to be allocated to the Humber Lifeboat at Spurn Point and very much continues the very good relationship Hessle RNLI has enjoyed with ASDA over the last 12 years.

The presentation follows on from last weekend when 17 of the Branch’s volunteer fundraisers raised £568 for the Lifeboat Service when they held their annual Flag Day on Saturday morning as part of the RNLI’s National Mayday fundraising campaign.

Steve Robinson the Branch’s Press and Publicity Officer said “We would just like thank all the local people who so very generously supported our street collection in the centre of Hessle. There is still time to support our national Mayday campaign, which runs throughout this month by visiting RNLI.org/Mayday to donate – all funds raised this year are going to provide equipment for our volunteer lifeboat crews around the country”.

Coxswain Martin Hagen together with other members of the crew were also on hand together with RNLI mascot “Stormy Stan” and the crew provided a “guard of honour” as the two teams came onto the pitch. Thanks go to Hull FC Chairman Adam Pearson for his support and also not least to long time Humber Lifeboat Supporter Richard Marriott for all his efforts in securing this event. Richard organised the distribution of some 15,000 flags for the stadium seats and also arranged for a group of singers from Opera D’Amici to provide the live pre match entertainment.
